Quarantined Residence Released After Meth Clean-up

Since the passage of a state law allowing law enforcement to quarantine sites that have been used for the production of methamphetamine, the Bradley County Sheriff's Office has posted quarantine notices on eight homes.

The law gives law enforcement a mechanism to quarantine homes until they are cleaned of contamination and certified by an industrial hygienist as being safe to occupy.

The law deals specifically with the potential harm to humans who are exposed to the vapors that are given off by the combining of various substances and chemicals to produce meth. Toxic vapors are released that can be absorbed into the walls, floors and contents of the house.

Last week the Bradley County Sheriff's Office received the final report of a hygienist for a residence at 1113 Lay St., one of the quarantined properties.

Home is where the Art is

The Palmerston North City Council and Creative New Zealand are offering financial assistance to community based arts and culture projects through the Creative Communities New Zealand (CCNZ) scheme. The scheme aims to support projects that increase local participation or community wide interest in the arts or that enhance and strengthen the local arts sector and the range and diversity of arts available. The City Council's Projects Coordinator, Rhiannon Malley, says ‘arts' is broadly defined to mean any ‘creative expression', including those relating to language, literature and performing and visual arts. This means that a wide variety of projects is considered, such as theatre, multi-media, dance, traditional arts, craft, music, literary arts and performance arts. Previous projects the Council and Creative New Zealand have funded include the Swamp Festival through Creative Sounds, the Environmental Film Festival, Samoan Cultural Festival, the Wellington Regional Orchestra Foundation – Primary School Concert and Summer Shakespeare.
